Frequently asked questions

So what is PMU?

Is it painful? especially the lips?

No tattoo treatment can be guaranteed to be 100% pain free.
Numbing cream is provided and applied but due to medications or potential allergies this will need to be discussed during consultation and patch test is required.

I have personally had my own PMU so i am aware of how it feels and nervous it can make you. But i can assure you that this treatment should NOT be painful, at worst only a little uncomfortable.

Can it go wrong?

Young Model

PMU stands for permanent makeup.

Permanent makeup is NOT to be confused with semi permanent. It can and will fade over time but pigment can remain in the skin permanently. To be classed as semi, the pigment would fade after 6-8 weeks. It's a common mistake to make but PMU can last up to 3 years depending on how well you maintain care and your skin type.

The pigment is implanted into the skin in for form of a cosmetic tattoo using specifically designed needles and cosmetic pigments.

During your consultation, a pre draw is done so you are able to see what shape and style suits you. If you're unsure on your design, speak up and make the adjustments.

If you have a certain idea in mind, (especially those who need a whole new brow draw), draw your shape before you come to your consulation. This will give me a better idea of your expectations.

The thing to get wrong can actually be the correct colour for your skin tone. If you are asked about the colour of your Jewlery or the clothes you wear, it may be to help me understand your undertones so the best choices can be made. You also need to remember that the pigment will fade and settle around 30/40% less to what your first session looks like. If i suggest a slightly darker shade this is usually the reason.

The 6 week touch up!

Is it nessecary?

The pigments settle as they heal, sinking down and then rising back up to the surface of the skin. During the healing process, some pigment may be lost and therefore needs to be replaced for full effect. 6 weeks gives the skin enough time to heal completely before the next session and for the pigments to settle. The top up is also a way we can check that everything has settled and healed as we want and if we need to add more pigment or make any adjustments we can. The other issues i have is colour. The pigment fades so it looks very bold when first applied and this make clients choose a much lighter colour against recommendation's. Of course then at the top up i get asked for a darker pigment, which is fine but listen to your PMU artist.

The healing process is a slow thing that happens over a period of around 5-6 weeks (slower with age). You will notice your skin feeling dry and starting to flake. This is totally normal! As your skin flakes away, you may see pigment coming away. It is incredibly important to not pull the skin away as it may pull more pigment away causing patches. Picking with unwashed hands is also a sure way for bacteria to get into the skin and cause infection. With washed hands, a brand new ointment that has been provided, should be applied regular to help keep the skin moist.

It is totally normal, after a few weeks if the pigment looks like it has disappeared. this is because the pigment settles into the lower levels of the skin and then has to resurface. We allow 6 weeks healing process so we can make sure the skin has done a full cycle and has fully repaired before we go in again.

For the first week, ideally the skin needs to kept away from extreme heat such as saunas, hot baths and sweaty workouts. Eyeliner and brows means no makeup for at least 3 days for infection prevention.
